This was my first shoot at the magnificent Pulpit Rock on Cape Schanck and a difficult one at that! When I first arrived the tide was incoming and about half full but by the time sunset arrived it was nearing high. This meant my original composition was no longer possible as waves were breaking where the tripod was originally setup. I had to keep moving my gear backwards to avoid getting swept off the rocks. On top of that I was also dealing with a howling 30 knot south westerly onshore wind blowing seaspray all over my gear. I had to repeatedly clean my lens in between each shot and was getting extremely frustrated as time went by!
As the sun set the light was not really exciting me much with a lot of thick low clouds rolling in off the ocean but I could see there was a small degree of potential so I decided to hang around. All of a sudden a gap in the cloud appeared and some beautiful light shone through lighting up what was such a dull scene only seconds ago. I captured this exposure and caught the beautiful sunset just in time before the light disappeared again as more clouds rolled in. It was an excellent lesson in perservering even when it seems like everything is against you!
