I have travelled extensively across Australia and can definately say that Western Australia undoubtedly boasts the best beaches. It is a huge state though, so if you want to see the absolute best of the best then head directly to Esperance, or more specifically Cape Le Grand National Park. With crystal clear turquoise waters, white sand beaches and stunning granite headlands you won't be disappointed!
Lucky Bay is the most famous beach in Cape Le Grand, partly for it's undeniable beauty and partly because you will often find kangaroos lazing around on the sand.
I had seen countless photos of Lucky Bay over the years so Esperance was high on my hit list for quite some time. Finally in late 2019, I was blessed to be able to find some time to spend 4 days in the region with good friend and talented photographer Russ McLean from New Zealand. We hired a 4WD, made the 7 hour drive from Perth and spent every day exploring the incredible beaches and sand dunes in the area.
This particular afternoon we were exploring Cape Le Grand National Park and could see a beautiful sunset developing. The cloud cover was moving quickly so it made it hard to predict where the best vantage point would be. We drove around for some time checking out a few different locations then decided to head to Lucky Bay. We hit the beach in the 4WD and drove as far as we could before coming to a rocky headland. The tide was coming in so we had to be very careful not to get stuck in the soft sand higher up the beach!
What an incredible place, this was definately the most stunning part of Lucky Bay. We split up and went exploring to find our own compositions. I found a rock ledge that offers a beautiful vantage point out across this secluded part of the bay. The sky lit up and I captured this unique photograph by stiching 6 vertical photos together to create an ultra-wide view.
Yet another amazing experience! |
