There are many beautiful well known islands on the Great Barrier Reef however one of my favourites is actually a little known location called Lady Musgrave Island. One of the most appealing things about Lady Musgrave Island is that there is no resort on the island and it's a protected national park.
I waited almost a week until wild weather cleared before I was able to take a boat cruise out to Lady Musgrave Island. The day I went, the weather was only just starting to ease off and the captain of the boat made an announcement that there was 4 metre swell and 40-50kmh winds! He then explained that they wouldn't normally take their smallish 22m catamaran out in these conditions and gave people the option to get off the boat with a full refund if they were feeling uneasy. Before we headed off, he ordered everyone remaining to take sea sickness tablets. I live for moments like these but I have to say it was the roughest sea conditions I have ever experienced.
I was reluctant that it would even be worth shooting once I arrived at Lady Musgrave but luckily the lagoon that I wanted to shoot was on the sheltered side of the island which worked in my favour.
When we arrived I captured this stunning photograph looking out across the lagoon back towards the island. When I view the photograph I just want to jump back into the azure waters for a swim. What an amazing place! |
