Definately the most iconic landmark on the Isle of Skye, the Old Man of Storr is an impressive rock formation. The steep climb up here from close to sea level is not for the faint-hearted, especially with 20kg of gear on your back trudging through thick mud in the dark!
I captured this on my second visit to the Old Man of Storr. The first morning I climbed up, the sky was clouded in so I explored the area and settled on this particular spot as my favourite vantage point.
This particular morning I was actually heading to the Quiraing which is further north when I spotted some thick cloud in the distance.
I noticed that it was fairly clear over the Old Man of Storr as I was driving past so made a quick last-minute decision to ditch the Quiraing and stop here instead. I'm glad I did although due to my late decision I missed the peak of a colourful sunrise when I was still 10 minutes away from this vantage point! Kicking myself, I pushed on anyway deciding that when the first light hit from the sun it could still be worthwhile. I'm glad I did because this glorious light arrived only minutes after I finished my climb and I captured this stunning scene, like something from a Lord Of The Rings movie. |
