Seaford Pier was one of the very first locations I ever photographed.
14 years ago I was living in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, and drove down early one morning to capture the sunrise with my point and shoot camera. It was a photo that I was quite proud of at the time and in fact sold a few copies to friends and family.
I had started revisiting during the start of 2017, in the hope of capturing some magical light underneath the pier. Now that I am living down the Mornington Peninsula, it’s a lot closer to home and only 20 minutes’ drive from the gallery in Mornington.
One late afternoon in Winter of 2017, I was working at the gallery and saw some nice light developing. I hit the road and arrived at Seaford Pier half an hour before sunset.
It was a calm, serene evening and the soft pastel colours of the sunset were reflecting beautifully on the water as a school of dolphins played nearby.
It was high tide when I arrived and I wasn’t happy with the view from the beach so I waded out into the icy cold water until I found the composition I was after. By then it was waist deep and getting very cold.
As the light peaked, I captured this amazing moment, then quickly headed back to the warmth of the car. |

For unframed prints and gallery wall stock (framed prints), Australia wide delivery takes 1-2 weeks and International delivery takes 2-3 weeks. For custom framed prints, Australia wide delivery generally takes 6-8 weeks and International delivery time takes 8-10 weeks.
